IDO Joins EU Sport Forum 2024: Fostering Dialogue in European Sports Policy

IDO is privileged to participate in the EU Sport Forum, an annual event hosted by the European Commission, dedicated to fostering continuous dialogue within the European and international sports community. Bringing together representatives from various European and international sports organizations, as well as EU institutions and member states, the forum facilitates insightful discussions on current and future sports policies.

The day commenced with a series of engaging presentations and networking sessions. Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, who also oversees sports, inaugurated the forum. Patrik Perosa, Advisor to the President representing IDO, had the privilege of conversing with the Commissioner.

Additionally, welcome messages were delivered by Pierr-Yves Jeholet, Minister President of Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles, and Tomasz Frankovski, MEP and Co-Chair of the Sport Group at the European Parliament. Keynote speeches by Jean-Michel Saive, President of the Belgian Olympic Committee, and Samuel Ducroquet, Ambassador for Sport at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, further set the stage for the day's discussions.

Participants were enriched by insightful presentations from former Olympic and Paralympic Games medalists, who shared their experiences as top athletes. Subsequent sessions were dedicated to showcasing best practices from projects supported by the EU Erasmus+ Sport Programme. A focal point of the day was a high-level panel discussing the forthcoming major sporting events of Olympic Games Paris 2024 and UEFA Euro 2024.

The highlight of the day was the BeInclusive EU Sport Awards, honouring outstanding initiatives in three categories: Breaking Barriers (won by Olympic Urban Festival from Belgium), BeEqual (won by Danmarks Idraetsforbund from Denmark), and Sport for Peace (won by Champions Factory from Bulgaria).
